WIP Wednesday: Lazy Katy

To celebrate finishing all of my deadline knitting, I allowed myself to cast on a very special shawl: Lazy Katy.

Lazy Katy spiral shawl in Fiber Optic Kimber Baldwin gradient braid handspun

I've been wanting to knit this for a long time - I spun it up with a specific purpose in mind, and I bought the Fiber Optic gradient braid at Knitter's Connection in Columbus last summer.

This is a brilliant pattern. It's so simple, but yields such a wonderful spiraling shape. I can't wait to wear it -- and it shouldn't be long, because it knits up so incredibly quick. The body of the shawl is all stockinette, with a simple lace border at the end.

With any other yarn, this pattern might be tedious from its wide stretches of stockinette - but I remain captivated by the slowly changing colors, always eager to start the next row. If there was ever such a thing as a perfect knitting project, this would be it -- it's easy, I love knitting it, and I can't wait to wear it. In some ways, I hardly want to finish it, because then I won't be knitting it anymore!

  1. Great color gradation! How did you ply with such perfect color matching?

  2. There actually are spots of 'barbepoling' where one ply is a different color than the other, but unless you're looking at it really up-close, it just makes the gradation look even smoother! :) I'm far from the most consistent spinner in the world, so I also 'cheated' a bit -- when I wound my plying ball, if I felt like there was too long of an area where the colors didn't match up, I just broke off a section of one of the plies and spit-spliced it to the appropriate place.

  3. hello, that's a great job. May I juste ask : where did you find the pattern to knit this wonderful shawl. Thank you for showing your pictures. I want to make the same : but impossible. No explanations....

    1. Hi Dom! The pattern is available for sale on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tuch---shawl-lazykaty
